How did I not realize this?
I'm off to Ohio to visit family for a week. We leave around 3 pm...which means that I can't even download, much less see the finale until I come back. Ack! I'm going to be so out of the loop. All the discussionmay have petered out...what am I saying? The DW fen will be discussing this one to death until 2010. No worries.
See everyone in about a week.

Hmm.
I should preface this post by saying that I'm a frequent reader and sometime commenter at Making Light, so I tend to be biased toward
tnh and
pnh's accounts of events.
A collection of links to the controversy:
June 23: Violet Blue notes in passing that the posts that link to her work are gone from Boing Boing.
June 26: Digg's comment thread
June 30: Metafilter's conversation
June 30: Making Light's first, very oblique reference
July 1: Boing Boing responds
July 1: Making Light's second, more direct (but still not very) post
July 2: LaTimes blogs with some reaction from Violet Blue.
What do I have to say about all this? Well, it's interesting to me primarily because of the intersection of my ML-reading sensitivities and my husband's Boing Boing reading sensitivities. I think, because he's a Boing Boing reader, he's got the "I expected more from them!" feeling going on, and because I'm a ML reader, I've got the "I trust Teresa!" thing going on. In any case, it appears to be a very personal issue for a lot of people, which probably explains why the boingers refuse to go into detail about why they made the decision they did, and also why so many people are getting rabid in the resulting discussion. My husband and I are still hashing it out ourselves. What do you think?

No one reads this journal yet, but I'll cut for spoilers anyway.
( Here. )
BTW, welcome to my fannish journal. Feel free to add me, if you like what you've read here. I'm going to try to post more about TV and other media here than I do in my regular journal, and I may even start to get creative and post some icons or fanfiction eventually. If I have time.

In real life, I am a mom, a professional, and an academic. I know that it's possible to be these things and be fannish and snarky at the same time, but I have always struggled to keep a tight rein on myself. So, this will be an experiment (oh noez! soshul experiment!): to see what becomes of me if I let myself wallow in the anonymity of the intertubes and snark to my heart's content. I may even write some fan fiction...but let's just start with what we have, yes?
